Minister States Ministry of Defence Looking at Potential Threat from Chinese Cars, with Staff Told to Refrain from Confidential Discussions in Vehicles.

An defense official has stated that the MoD is actively investigating the possible threats posed by Chinese cars, and staff have been instructed to refrain from discussing secret matters in all vehicles.

Safety Advice for Defence Personnel

In a recently aired appearance on LBC, Luke Pollard addressed reports that Ministry of Defence officials have been told not to talk about secret material while riding in China-made vehicles.

He stated that the ministry is “examining” cars from China within its fleets, but stressed that safety is a issue in every modern cars.

Our department has a fleet of thousands of vehicles in the Ministry of Defence and Chinese ones represent a tiny fraction.
However whether you’re driving a Chinese car or a car from another country, our instruction to our staff is to avoid connecting MoD devices into their vehicle, to avoid having discussions at a secret classification in any kind of car, because of the increasing risks of surveillance that are present in every single automobile, to restrict those secret conversations in protected areas. That’s a prudent and sensible thing for everyone concerned about safety.

When it was suggested that it would be wise for the ministry to stop using all cars from China, the minister replied: That is exactly what we’re investigating at the moment.”

Broader Security Context

The revelation comes as reports from Scandinavian countries have alerted the UK to the presence of multi-purpose shutdown mechanisms in Chinese electric buses, which could allow China to disable public transport and bring chaos to transport systems.

Furthermore, a Russia intelligence vessel was reportedly shining laser beams at Royal Air Force pilots, described as a “highly dangerous” action by government representatives.

This wider security situation underscores the importance of strong protocols and vigilance in all areas of official activities, from transport use to communication practices.
